Hayden Leung

Hayden Leung is a Columbia Computer Science student (minoring in Biomedical Engineering and Linguistics) working at the intersection of software systems, graph analysis, and biomedical machine learning.

I build real systems across software, machine learning, and computational biology, and the developer tooling that makes the work go faster.

Selected work

Public projects; the full set is in the CV.

  • apocalypto

Offline-first phone navigation for a degraded-infrastructure setting with no GPS, cell, or internet: a shared Rust core for positioning and trust, a Flutter/Dart shell rendering an offline vector map, and a validated phone-only dead-reckoning plus GNSS re-anchoring scheme holding street level (P95 6.7 m) over a real ~2 km walk.

    • flutter_rust_bridge
    • MapLibre / PMTiles
  • Sourced

A Claude Code framework and CLI for defensible academic writing: every citation verified and full-text-accessible, every paraphrase scope-matched to its source, and the author's voice preserved instead of flattened into AI-flavored prose.

    • pandoc
    • CSL
    • pipx
  • DocAgent

A CLI agent that generates a whole repository's documentation set (README, guides, API reference, and more) and verifies every claim against the real source with a deterministic-first pipeline. Published to PyPI as docagent-ai.

    • libcst
    • SQLite
  • dotBlueprint

An agent pipeline that turns a Python repository into a chapter-by-chapter pedagogical textbook grounded in the code itself, with a human-approved outline gate, parallel chapter writing, and a strict-mode verifier that aborts on any unverifiable claim.

  • loop-engineering

An autonomous software-engineering system: a deterministic supervisor loop dispatches disciplined Claude Code sessions, isolates each in a git worktree, gates on a verified done/blocked/needs-human signal, and opens PRs, working a backlog to completion.

Experience

  1. AI Automation Engineer, Intern · Capstone Capital Management

    – · Hong Kong (hybrid)

Built AI-driven automation for a quantitative hedge fund's recurring analyst workflows: configured and security-hardened a desktop AI assistant to work safely over confidential position data, authored a library of task automations, and delivered a survivorship-bias-free S&P 500 drawdown research pipeline, coming in with limited finance background and learning the domain fast.

  2. Software Engineer, Intern · Saint Bella Group (HKEX 2508)

    – · Remote

Built the investor-relations software and data tooling for a HKEX-listed maternity-care group: a live president-briefing dashboard on Cloudflare Workers with a whole-corpus-grounded streaming Q&A agent, a fact-ID knowledge base with build-failing validation gates, and a reproducible investor-deck build/export pipeline.

  3. Teaching Assistant, ENGI 1006 (Intro to Computing for Engineers and Applied Scientists) · Columbia University

    – · New York, NY

TA for Columbia's largest introductory computing course (~220 students), teaching scientific computing in Python.

  4. Junior Research Assistant · Centre for Novostics

    – · Hong Kong

Applied large language models to genomic data for a novel early-cancer-detection method, and evaluated DNA sequencing technologies for liquid biopsy in a wet-lab setting.

  5. Summer Intern · FundamentalVR

    · London, UK

Engineered real-time robotic-arm haptic feedback for needle-puncture surgical simulations in C#/Unity.

  6. Summer Intern, Communications Technology · ASTRI (Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute)

    – · Hong Kong

Automated end-to-end testing of commercial 5G network software with shell scripts, eliminating manual test execution; elected an intern division leader and press-conference representative.
